CIS course funding

It depends on the course, so please call us to discuss; in most cases, anybody can complete training. For example, if you can do your job, you can do an NVQ! Our friendly team will help guide you. 

No. IN-SYNC is just facilitating the funding for your qualification. However, you do need to let us manage your taxes for the duration of your course to access our exclusive services.

You don’t need an NVQ for a green labourer card. However, you must complete your CITB Health & Safety Exam (£22.50). 

You’ll need to arrange your CITB test directly with the CITB and register for your card (£36.50) with the CSCS yourself. If you need cash to cover exam and registration fees for obtaining green CSCS cards, talk to us about accessing your tax rebate early to cover these costs! 

Although some CSCS cards don’t require a construction NVQ, some do — including the blue (skilled worker) and gold (skilled worker or supervisory) cards. As well as passing the CITB exam, you’ll require an NVQ level 2 in your field for a blue card and an NVQ level 3 for a gold one. 

Blue and gold cards must be renewed every five years, but you don’t need to retake your NVQs to qualify for a new card. Register for a CSCS account online to learn about the different card types. 

The length of each course varies, but here are the main ones… 

• NVQs at level 2 or 3 should take four to eight weeks. 
• CISRS Part 1 or Part 2 each require 10 full training days at a centre in Nottingham or Grimsby. 

Industry accreditation (also known as ‘grandfather rights’) by the CSCS once allowed operatives to secure a CSCS card based on recommendations from their contractors rather than through industry-recognised qualifications.

The scheme was closed to new applicants in 2010, but those who’d acquired cards through grandfather rights have been able to renew on the same basis. However, this will no longer be the case from 31 December 2024, when these cards expire — meaning operatives will need an NVQ to secure a new CSCS card.
